Winnie is my mother's middle name, and it’s also what she got called most of the time when she was younger. I think it’s a lovely name, actually one of my favourites. The honey eating bear is not called Winnie the Pooh in my country, but even though I know its original name now, I still never think of the bear when I hear Winnie. I simply just love this name.

How is it a bad idea to name a child (regardless of it being a girl or a boy) Winnie? Winnie has a wonderful meaning and no matter how hard you try picking the perfect name, in the future your child will definitely come across some mean people who will easily manage to come up with cruel insults and hurl them non-stop mercilessly. Sadly, name calling has existed for a long time and it is difficult to completely avoid them in one's life. I have met people with what you could call "safe", "normal" names such as Jamie, Hannah, Marcus etc. And they've all been teased not due to their names, but because of other factors based on their looks, culture, habits, weaknesses etc.I love this name- don't be put off because of Winnie the Pooh! =)
